 BIO:
McAvoy, currently a Major League scout for the Houston
Astros, began his career at
Palmer
High
School.
As a 3 time All-Western Mass performer in baseball he chose
to attend Div I Western Carolina University. After a year
of pitching at WCU, McAvoy transferred to the University of
Mississippi. At Ole Miss he was a preseason All-America
nominee in 1999 and 2000, two time Ole Miss pitcher of the
year, team captain and ALL-SEC Selection, 1998, ’99 member
of the Brewster Whitecaps of the prestigious Cape Cod
Baseball League. In May of 2000 McAvoy signed with the
Montreal Expos and pitched 4 seasons in their minor league
system, with stops at 4 different levels, A, A+, AA, and
AAA. In 2003, McAvoy made his 1st appearance in
a Major League Spring Training camp. Pitching career came
to a close due to a shoulder injury. McAvoy is now employed
full-time by the Houston Astros as a Major League Scout, his
responsibilities include, reporting on hundreds of players
at the AA, AAA and Major League levels, as well as preparing
prospect lists an suggesting components in potential deals
for the July 31st MLB trade deadline and the
December Rule V Draft.
